Rutgers Football Earning Its Spot In The Big 10
This fall was the first season for Rutger’s football in the Big 10 conference.
Many people felt that the team didn’t belong there and that they would be a disappointment to themselves and their fans.
But guess again. Rutgers currently has a record of five wins and one loss against rival Penn State. They proved themselves against big names like the Navy, Tulane and even bigger … Michigan! That game was huge for the Rutgers football team.
Many fans were surprised that Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova wasn’t benched for the Michigan game after throwing five interceptions against Penn State.
But against Michigan, Nova came out ready to prove himself. He ended up throwing 22 completed passes out of 39, making a career-high of 404 yards. Of those 22 completed passes, three were touchdowns! Nova also threw absolutely no interceptions during the game, reclaiming his starting position.
Another honorable mention goes to redshirted freshman Defensive End Kemoko Turay. In the beginning of the game he was barely being noticed with only one tackle, but he came back when it was most important, and knocked away Michigan’s 56-yard field goal attempt that would have given them the lead.
Unfortunately, Rutgers lost a big game against Ohio State this past Saturday. The Ohio State offense, which included quarterback JT Barrett who personally scored two touchdowns, came ready to play and score.
Rutgers has proved that they earned their spot in the Big 10 conference before; the question now is can they do it again after this loss? Later in the season they will face other big names like the Maryland Terrapins.
